Small but friendly budget option
What we say: 
Located just above an art shop with the same name, the four rooms at Tiffa Losman are basic but have an artistic bent. The rooms are small and have little extra room around the beds, so don't share them with anyone you don't like... a lot. Breakfast is included. All rooms have fans and are very clean. Somewhat confusingly, on street level, the small blue sign on the building reads Gandhi Losman. It's the same place, it just has two names.

Bedbugs festival
Room was not very large but nicely decorated, as the whole guesthouse, and looked clean. Nice balcony for (included) breakfast, free wifi, free coffee, and reasonable (for Yogyakarta) prices : even if window was opening directly to the kitchen, place looked more than OK. But at night, I realized my room was really infested by bedbugs. I spent part of the night killing dozens and dozens of bedbugs, and then moved to the sofa on the balcony, and hardly slept — Tiffa just won the ''worst night of my trip'' award, out of more than 100 guesthouses in SE Asia (most being way cheaper) ; congratulation. When, in morning, I explained the bedbugs problem to the owner, he pretended to be surprised — but there was some old blood stains  on bed-sheets, and given the number of bedbugs, infection was certainly not recent : he surely knew about it. I was expecting at least some apologies (and even a discount), but owner was only interested in me paying and leaving..... (hence the bad note for staff) (note: after checking with other guests, the doubles room, on upper floor, apparently had no bedbugs)
