Phoenix Hotel
One of Yogya's finest hotels

What we say:
We decided to check out this hotel after a businessman friend, who is lucky enough to be somewhat of a connoisseur of top-end lodgings, labeled it as his favourite hotel in Indonesia. The stunning colonial-era building, dating back to 1918, is something special in itself. The rooms fuse Asian and European decor effortlessly, and some come with balconies overlooking the pristine swimming pool and fountain, which are the centrepieces of the building. A well-equipped gymnasium and spa rounds off the list of impeccable facilities. The Phoenix's location also makes it more convenient than some of the other top-end hotels in town because it is closer to the bustling centre of Yogya. Managed by the Accor group, this establishment strives to meet top international standards and the staff seem like they would bend over backwards to help their guests. Be sure to check online for competitive rates.
