Abdi Homestay
Budget pitstop

What we say:
Just about next door to Gii Deli, Abdi Homestay is a good option for budget travellers wanting to stay near the pier and night market without going back into the backblocks of the village. The fan-cooled, green A-frame rooms here are quite a bargain for the standard and are well maintained. There are still cheaper rooms on-site, more or less opposite the lumbungs, but we were told we wouldn't like them and weren't shown one — despite them looking habitable from outside.

Bargain
Stayed here again Nov '12, mentioned I had stayed previously and got one of the bungalows for 120,000 a night as we were staying for a couple of weeks. Good budget place with no frills, comfortable bed, cottage cheese pillows, decent enough bathroom. Nice patio area outside the front to sit. Only downside is that if you stay a few weeks your room doesn't get a clean so it can become quite sandy!

Everything but the kitchen sink.
I stayed here with a friend in November 2010, not in the A-frame bungalows but in the basic rooms opposite. The room itself was absolutely fine but the bathroom was probably the worst I've encountered. The toilet was just sort of plonked in the middle of the very, very small bathroom so you had to shower around it, and there was no sink. We usually just brushed our teeth outside... That being said, it was incredibly cheap and at the time we were on a very tight budget so it suited us well! We managed to haggle for a long stay and got the room for 75,000 a night, which is an absolute bargain. There was a decent double bed and another single bed which was useful for dumping luggage on, and the room was a good size and the manager gave us a couple of fans after we asked for no extra charge. A friend stayed in the bungalows pictured above and they were very nice. Not spacious, but the open air bathroom out the back looked brand new with proper flushing toilet, sink and shower. Nicely decorated and well worth paying a bit more for. She also negotiated and I believe she paid around 110-120,000 a night.
