Great sunsets, good rooms
Dutch owned and managed Karma Kayak is one of the last spots on the north coast of Gili Trawangan before a long stretch of nothing but sand and dust, and it's a good note to finish on.
Chalet-style lodging runs back from a small but charming restaurant and is quite a good deal for the area. Rooms are spacious and well looked after, with simple furnishings and comfortable decks. Karma Kaya unfortunately doesn't accept children, so families will have to look elsewhere. It is also known for its tapas bar — really a collection of beanbags and layabouts on the beach. It's a fabulous spot for the sunset, but on our visit we found the staff to be incredibly rude — the Sangria comes well recommended though. As you'd guess from the name, kayaking is available, but not year round due to currents.
