Located right on the corner by the bridge, this guest house is often touted as one of the best options in Sam Neua, it is indeed very clean, with generous-sized rooms graded and priced accordingly. The largest rooms, on the top floor, are pleasantly done with a few pieces of furniture, a fan and private bathroom featuring squat toilet and hot shower. Other rooms also have a private bathroom, but with cold shower, and a third type are plain rooms with access to shared bathrooms, which have a western-style toilet and hot shower. There is a small balcony upstairs on the third floor, with big windows and a view out over the Sam River. They have a bus to take guests to the airport free of charge, and which is also available for hire around Sam Neua. Cost is 300,000 kip per day for under 30 km, which will take you to the caves at Viengxay, or 500,000 kip for around 50km. The staff here speak good English and are very helpful regarding local sights.

Kham Xam Guesthouse reviews

Read 1 opinions from Travelfish readers

A safe bet - 6th July, 2007
Update on prices, it's 40,000 kip for shared bathroom, 60,000 for ensuite and 70,000 for room with ensuite and TV - I got one of these but never used the TV. I can't speak for other rooms but mine was clean, had western toilet, good hot shower, comfortable bed. Great location by the river. A few doors down is a good restaurant, the Chittavanh, which has a menu in English. Apparently there are cheaper places (including the hotel across the street) but this seems to be a safe bet if you don't want to waste time shopping around.
