Luang Nam Tha basically has two types of accommodation -- those that are angled towards Western travellers and those aimed at Chinese and/or Lao travellers. There are far more of the latter than the former, but as you'll get no English at any of these and, on occasion a bit of a stony welcome, we've not listed them. The Houng Heuang is about the best of these guesthouses we could find. Rooms are clean and not too pokey, but the bathroom in the room we saw could have done with a thorough sandblasting. The air-con rooms are good value and the rooms upstairs on the corners of the building get a lot of natural light, making them feel more welcoming. The front desk staff tried hard, but didn't speak a lick of English. That said, rates were reasonable, making this a good backup if the top options in town are full.
