Between the main road and the Nam Khan, Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang Province
Tel: (020) 567 2735

Description
Chihtana lies down a small alley between the main road and the Nam Khan. Staff often hang out in the seating area out front, greeting guests as they come and go, and playing the guitar with friends. The rooms are pretty basic, with a large bed taking up most of the room, and the walls could do with a fresh coat of paint. All are fan-cooled, some with a private bathroom. Others share a bathroom with western toilet and hot shower - not the cleanest in Luang Prabang.

Total rooms: 7

Dbl fan share b'room
2 USD (low season) 4 USD (high season)

Dbl fan private b'room

Staff friendly and helpful although not always available, good English. Room with own bathroom good but standard for $10. Room clean but little space. Bed was good and firm with decent pillows, towels okay but have your own handy. Quiet area, there was some construction in the area so noisy during the day but quiet at night. Bathroom small but clean, flush western toilet with hot shower although hot water doesn’t last very long. Electrical outlet. You can leave your bag at reception after checking out for the day for free, but know about leaving your bags for a couple of days. No internet facilities but a couple of internet cafés close by. No restaurant but a variety to choose from, most restaurants quite expensive though, a vegetarian buffet at the night market is the best value for money you’ll get in Luang Prabang. Don’t know about laundry since we didn’t have to do any at that stage but sure they have. No international payphones that we saw but there are places that provide international call services. Laos has no ATMs! You can draw money from certain travel agencies but a bit expensive and they only give you Kip which is difficult to exchange for other currencies.

Levady Guesthouse
Sisavangvong Rd, Luang Prabang
The newly-built Levady is located in a small, picturesque laneway, which is just off the central strip of Luang Prabang's tourist district. The area is leafy and tropical, and surrounded by wats and traditional Lao buildings. More than half the rooms are upstairs, made of well polished wood. They... more

Merry Guest House 1
Central Luang Prabang
Merry 1 is located about an eight-minute walk from the centre of town along a small unpaved laneway and is the best pick of a cluster of the four guesthouses here, with small, clean, fan-cooled rooms, each with attached bathroom and hot shower. Rooms on the river side of the building have a modest... more

Sok Dee Guest House
Ban Wat Nong, Luang Prabang
Tucked away down an obscure, quiet laneway, Sok Dee Guest House is hard to find in its upmarket local residential area, which is still near all the tourist amenities and near the Mekong River. The fan-cooled rooms are spotlessly clean, all have included bathroom with hot shower and –... more

Silichit Guesthouse and Restaurant
Baan Xieng Mouane, Luang Prabang
Silichit is a brand new guesthouse, on a street just off the Mekong River, with very clean rooms and eager-to-please staff. Rooms come in two sizes: generous and large, and have big beds and attached bathrooms with hot shower. Despite the name, no restaurant appears to be attached to the... more

Pathoumphone Guesthouse

Heritage Guest House
Ban Paphai, Luang Prabang
Heritage Guesthouse is well located, very near to the main tourist area and all the restaurants, a stone's throw from both the Mekong and the Nam Khan rivers and easy strolling distance from the old quarter. Its proximity to the wat next door however can make for some noisy early morning wake up... more

Sabaidee Guesthouse
Baan That Luang, Luang Prabang
Sabaidee has decent-sized, clean rooms in a building set on large grounds. The grounds are being developed, and while some places have rusting trucks and various old machinery stored, others have potted plants, a fountain and outdoor tables. The rooms can be taken as either fan or air-con and are... more

Bougnasouk Guesthouse
Baan Xieng Mouane, Luang Prabang
The rooms at Bougnasouk are plain and functional. For its price, it's one of the better options, with a great location on the bank of the Mekong and just around the corner from the main street and old quarter. Although some of the rooms are a bit poky, they are at least light and airy. All rooms... more

Boupha Guesthouse
Ban Xieng Muang, Luang Prabang
Right on the main street, this old-style guesthouse feels like its part of the establishment of Luang Prabang, and has indeed been around for years. Malida Guesthouse
Baan That Luang, Luang Prabang
The small and well-run Malida, a five-minute walk from the hospital, has bare but clean rooms. Some have bathrooms, some have big or small beds, and one large room has air-con. There are two balconies, one is generous sized and overlooks the quiet street out the front and the other is a long narrow... more

Paphai Guest House
Ban Paphai, Luang Prabang
The walls of this traditional Lao-style house are made of bamboo, so every noise carries. Although the rooms are very small and basic, there is a lovely authentic feel. While the cleanliness can sometimes leave a little to be desired, and the rats in the roof are a little loud, the place has... more

Boungning Guesthouse
5-10 minutes' walk from the centre of Luang Prabang
Boungning is an old house in a quiet neighbourhood 5-10 minutes' walk from the centre of town. The rooms, and in fact the whole building, are basic and fairly threadbare. Rooms have a fan and bathroom with western toilet and hot shower. Bathrooms have clearly been built-in after the rest of the... more

Somjith Guesthouse
27/2 Ban Hoxieng, Luang Prabang
