What we say:

Cosy Pathoumphone boasts a great location on a quiet bank of the Khan River. In a pretty high-end neighbourhood, it is not a heritage building so prices are astonishingly low. The cheaper rooms actually have one of the nicest setups, with a spot in the front of the house and a small balcony. Though quite basic, rooms are spacious, clean, and fans and windows keep them from getting too stuffy. The staff are genuinely friendly and, with wooden furniture placed in the outdoor garden, guests are encouraged to while away the day drinking beer Lao and enjoying the river view.

A bit of a dump

We arrived late so ended up stuck here for a night. The room was dark, dingy and extremely basic. The fan was noisy and the bed very uncomfortable. At 70,000 kip we thought it was cheap for Luang Prabang, until we found our next guesthouse (the Nam Sok), which was fabulous (modern, clean, air con & internet) for 80,000k. I would advise people shop around for better value.

Lovely staff, stunning location

Lovely guesthouse with a stunning location, right by the river and a 2 min walk from Mount Phusi (which boasts amazing sunsets & rises). But what really makes this place special is the staff. The family who run it invited us to eat with them most days (and try their fried wasps and grasshoppers) and kept refilling our glasses with Beer Lao!! We were made to feel so welcome. The boy on reception, Deng, went out of his way to teach us Lao and to go to the pharmacy for us when we needed a medicine. Rooms are basic, but on the large side, and clean. Good value for what you are paying. Staff will let you keep your bag in reception if you plan to do a trek. Would 100% recommend!
