Description
Originally intended for rental as a private house, it was swiftly converted into a guesthouse after someone noticed that they had forgotten the kitchen. Beautifully done rooms with unusual attention to small details. All bathrooms are lovely, with hot shower and western toilet. Some rooms are tiny, although clean and simple. Rooms 1 and 3 are the best on offer, with several windows, more space and large bathrooms, which even boast baths. Prices are a little high for the standard, but Pack Luck is still worth considering. Previously known as Semiya Guesthouse.

The guesthouse is strategically located: only a five minutes walk to the main street - Sisavangvong Street. In addition, it is plonked right in front of the temple where you can catch a glimpse of the alsmgiving process every morning without getting out of your room (should you so choose to do so!) The rooms at level one are crappy with no view; but the corner rooms on level 2 offer good lounging out balconies for you to chill out. A word of caution: the morning prayer - real early - can be quite loud. The good thing is that it doesn't last for more than 10 mins.

We checked out Pack Luck. Downstairs room had gone up to $45 per night in January, no breakfast included. Room looked lovely, and mattresses reasonable ( big issue in Laos where they are mostly rock hard), but better value can be found.

I didn't find the staff here useless at all. I stayed in room 4 (double bed and en suite) for $20 a night and it was clean, great aircon, fridge in room and en suite BATH TUB(with shower) Have since recommended it to friends and will stay here again next year.

Sayo Guesthouse
Luang Prabang town
Sayo's few rooms are often full, particularly in the high season. It's no surprise, as they are lovely. An old French colonial building, Sayo is in the old quarter of town, and a lot of effort has been taken to decorate it in an appropriate style, with classically simple and unfussy pieces of... more

Rama Hotel
Ban Visoun, Luang Prabang
Clean and simple, the Rama Hotel offers probably the best value for money in Luang Prabang. It is centrally located, with a choice of either fan or air-conditioned rooms, all with bathroom and hot shower, fridge, telephone and television. The only drawback is that the beds are like concrete. Rooms... more

Thong Bay Guest House

Rattana Guesthouse
Kok Sack St, 4/2 Baan Wat That, Luang Prabang
Rattana is in a lovely, quiet area filled with a mix of guesthouses and private homes, but is still only a couple of minutes walk to the main centres of town. The newly-built part of the building is in Lao-French colonial style. The smaller rooms are very clean, fan-cooled with a private bathroom... more

Villa Ban Lao
Ban Mano, Luang Prabang
Housed in an enormous colonial-style building and set on large rambling grounds, Villa Ban Lao is beautifully preserved in a tranquil environment. Situated in a peaceful area of town, a little out of the tourist centre, it's still only a five-minute walk to most attractions. The rooms are... more

Xieng Mouane Guesthouse
Luang Prabang town
A gorgeous, well looked after garden sits at the centre of Xieng Moune. At the front is the old building, with rooms upstairs that are lovely, featuring wooden floors and classic furniture. More modern bathrooms have a hot shower and western toilet. The new building houses smaller rooms, which are... more

Khun and Con Guesthouse
Outskirts of Luang Prabang
A young family runs this lovely guesthouse just outside Luang Prabang. A collection of private bungalows, set on a small farm and surrounded by rice fields, it's a peaceful place to relax.
