The Apsara overlays a funky contemporary vibe to stately old-style rooms with all the amenities of a more expensive hotel (but no TV). Decor is simple but bold with an aesthetically pleasing combination of dark wood, whites and well-executed splashes of colour. An information book provides plentiful local information and an entertaining read. It's definitely worth splurging on the slightly more expensive rooms above the restaurant. These are larger and airier with small balconies overlooking the street and nearby Nam Khan. The in-house restaurant is arguably the best in Luang Prabang, serving delicious fusion Asian cuisine in a stylish open setting -- lunch is a particularly good deal with plenty of delectable choices and large portions.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. Excellent - 30th May, 2007
This has to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in! They have the balance of style and substance just right. The décor is beautiful in every detail, comfortable beds, good air-con, fantastic food, quiet location that is minutes from all the action. Genuine and friendly staff who are well trained (unlike the teenagers that seem to be left in charge of many of the places we have stayed in Southeast Asia). 55 US for the downstairs rooms in the new wing is very reasonable. Would love to come and stay here again.

I picked this place for a splashout after reading this review, and it was perfect. Gorgeous design, unfussy, great use of wood, still retains the old character of the place. Noise travels from the restaurant, but the spacious rooms upstairs are a delight. They're now $85. There had been a miscommunication with my bill, and staff corrected it immediately with absolutely no fuss.
