Jaliya Guesthouse
A secluded feel without leaving town

What we say:
Clean and modern, Jaliya is great value if you don't mind the 10-minute walk to the riverfront. There's a variety of fan or air-con rooms in the main building, some with small balconies, but the stand-outs are the rooms tucked away in the back garden. Secluded and full of verdant plants, the garden is a great place to chill out and has lounge chairs and round stone tables. Other than the difference in location, all rooms are similarly furnished with one or two beds, simple wooden furniture and attached bathrooms. The manager is friendly and speaks great English. This place is one of the best backpacker options in town.

Nice place
We stay here two nights every 4-6 weeks when passing through on the way from Vientiane to Hongsa going on almost three years now. I prefer this place because the owner doesn't change the prices each season - always reasonable. I don't mind the longer walk back from the tourist area especially after dinner.

Good option away from action
Stayed here for 5 nights. We stayed in a bungalow out the back of the section for 70,000kip a night, all was quiet except for the lady who had some serious smokers cough... gross Reception lady is very good and efficient. To the main market street is about a 10min walk but we never found it a hassle, or you could always get a 10,000kip tuk tuk ride back. About 2 mins walk away (on the same street, towards the town) there is a nice local food place, always busy with locals... they serve up the yummiest fried white noodles!

Watch out!!
The worst guesthouse/hostel we ever stayed in! We got a room ata rather high cost given its standards. They where doing construction work in the hall and right outside our room from 5.30 a.m to 9 p.m. I Got food poisoned when we stayed here and the owner took advantage of my girlfriend who was scared and stressed, by selling us two visas for vietnam at 70$ each, saying they wouldnt let us in if we hadnt pre paid. (Not true and the visas only costs 20 at the airport). When we kindly asked to stay in the room one hour over check out time since we were waiting for the flight we bought from here she demanded an extra 10$ for one hour. My advice is to stay away.

Decent place, but not centrally located
I got the Dbl AC w/ cable for 150,000 kip. The guesthouse and staff were great. Room and bath was clean, staff helpful, and the courtyard adjacet to the rooms peaceful. The only thing is that this place is 4-5 blocks from the center of everything (i.e. the river), so you have a walk. I met some travelers you got a very comparable room with river views for cheaper. But I guess if you don't mind the walk, this place is very recomended.

A place to chill out
Stayed here for 6 nights in a very clean room with AC, hot water and TV. They have a lovely garden where you can sit and relax and the lady at the reception is very nice and helpful. Should absolutely stay there again.

nice, clean and comfortable
We stayed here 5 nights in a $6 room. We had comfortable clean bed, a good fan and friendly staff were happy to help. About 15 mins walk to get into town via the market.
