What we say:

Located away from the main tourist drag along a small, leafy brick path, the sweet Sackarinh is a reliable but unremarkable choice. Faux columns line the common area where employees camp out to watch TV and smile at guests as they come and go. The surrounding rooms with attached baths have new additions of air-con and TV, and the remaining fan-only cheapies with shared facilities tend to fill up first. Blue-tiled bathrooms, whether private or shared, have Western toilets and hot showers. Staff are helpful: Ask them to direct you to the cheap noodle joints nearby.

Great place to stay

We stayed at Sakharinh GH for 2 nights early Dec, then 6 nights over new year and would wholeheartedly recommend it: the central location is ideal; the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly (and several spoke reasonable English); the rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. And the noodle stall at the top of the alley is one of the best!

Decent, but other options

Arrived here late a night (7:00) so our reservation had been given up, as we had booked the fan room with share bathroom. We opted for a discounted air-con room for 12 dollars for 1 night. Nothing too special about this guesthouse; at least nothing that makes it stand out. Its centrall located, and the staff are nice enough, and the beds and rooms are decent, but we found MUCH better rooms right across the alleyway at the Cafe Croissant D' Or, which also had a bakery. 9 bucks for a fan room that was soundproof and like a cave at night.
