Description
Saynamkhan is gloriously situated on the banks of the Nam Khan River. Unfortunately, the riverside rooms don’t take full advantage of the stunning location and only have smallish sized windows overlooking the view. Rooms are decent and medium sized, with décor that's plain and unobtrusive, if a little out of date. They're all very clean with bathroom, hot shower, fridge and air-con. A shared area is located on the ground floor, with a small but well stocked bar. Just off the main street in one of the most beautiful areas of town, the guesthouse is a short walk from all amenities, as well as the picturesque old quarter. Saynamkhan offers a good room in a price bracket that is not adequately covered in Luang Prabang.

OK choice -

Stayed there coz more appealing places like Senesouk were full. Rooms are ok, bathroom bit small. Staff speak little English. Overall the place is OK. By the way, they close the shutters at 11 pm so no night use of veranda possible((

I'd stay again -

They were the only place that would answer my e-mails, that’s how we ended up staying there. The air conditioning was cool and the in room refrigerator was great for cold drinking water. The room was clean. We stayed in a $25 room (queen size bed). The staff didn’t speak much English, but they tried to be helpful. The location is great (a 3 min walk from the main backpackers’ road and close to all of the major temples, but far enough away that it’s quiet at night). Don’t use their laundry service, they didn’t get the stains out of the clothing, it’s overpriced, and they didn’t have it ready on time even when I paid for the express service. The breakfast was so-so, it’s accurately represented on the menu, but there is better stuff just down the street. All in all I would stay there again.

There are alternatives -

The Saynamkhan has been lauded by so many guidebooks, but staying is believing. It's generally what one would expect save for:
1. small rooms
2. claustrophobic bathrooms with peeling decor
3. traffic noise as its on a corner
4. views of the road preceed views of the Nam Khan
5. Alternatives at $20 -$25
(Senesouk or Sokxai)
Otherwise no major gripes if you're in LP fir the first time. Its also another case for blowing the renovation budget on the glorious exterior and skimping on the interior, esp the bathrooms.

Villa Sokxai
Sakkalin Rd, Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang has very few guesthouses in this price range, and Villa Sokxai (previously known as Sok Xai Guesthouse) is one of them, but probably not the best value.
