Description
Right next to the gorgeous Wat Xieng Thong, Tum Tum Cheng is in the middle of the old French colonial quarter. Run by a Hungarian woman and her Lao husband, this friendly guesthouse is charmingly renovated, with an artistically designed outdoor area and attractive shared spaces. The rooms themselves, while well furnished and decorated, are a little dimly lit, and would do well with a little more window space. All rooms have fan and airconditioning, bathroom with hot shower and a booklet advising of services and things to do in Luang Prabang. The guesthouse also offers cooking classes at their terrific restaurant in town, and will help organise daytrips.

Disappointing!! - ![]()

We stayed a week having booked and paid in advance and for the price we expected more! Clean but drab rooms where EVERY sound from adjoining rooms echoed through the building! Nonchalant staff and frequent losses of power and water, and at the time of our stay the noise from surrounding building sites was incessant. Pleasant location but a quite a long walk to the central area of LP. Win some lose some.
Friendly?? I think NOT - ![]()

Booked well in advance and received email confirmation a few days before arriving. After an 11 hour bus trip from Luang Nam Tha the slimly guy on the front desk told us we hadn't made a booking. Unfortunately for him we are not totally stupid and could see the board with reservations and our room (no. 7) with a reservation written it. Basically he called us liars and when we pointed out the reservation on the board he said he would find us somewhere to stay (now 9.30pm). He managed to find us the most disgusting rat infested S%$#Hole in LP and for $15us. We moved to Sayo the next day and loved it. To be honest Tum Tum looked like a daggy overpriced motor inn so we were glad we stayed somewhere else anyway.
Nice and Good Value - ![]()

Nice and good value. However, not located on the main street of activities. Gotta turn round a corner to get to it. My female friend dare not walk back to the guest house herself during the night. Overall, nice and quiet place to stay. Only US20 for double.

Very good and quiet area just opposite Wat Xieng Thong. From the 2nd floor verandah you can hear the every evening monks-chanting(18:30!Don´t go there before, because you´ve to pay the admission!)Staircases on the Mekong river banks lead to small boats, which bring you to Pak Ou Caves and Whisky Village, but choose them carefully! The guesthouse itself is very clean, big bathroom and friendly staff.Wat Sibounheuang is situated on the back and you can hear the early morning Gooong to wake up the monks through your small window!Well furnished, tiled floors everywhere,AC,no TV. Paid just 20$ for doubleroom in Highseason!Highly recommended!!!

Villa Sokxai
Sakkalin Rd, Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang has very few guesthouses in this price range, and Villa Sokxai (previously known as Sok Xai Guesthouse) is one of them, but probably not the best value.
