Paphai Guest House

Briimming with character

The walls of this traditional Lao-style house are made of bamboo, so every noise carries. Although the rooms are very small and basic, there is a lovely authentic feel. The cleanliness can sometimes leave a little to be desired, and the rats in the roof are a little loud, but the place has character, a relaxing garden and great location. A highlight is sitting on the steps at the entrance at 4pm, while the novice monks play a percussive herald to the moon's cycles in direct view of the wat across the street. All bathrooms have hot water and all rooms are fan-cooled. This is one of the only spots in Luang Prabang where rates have actually dropped in the last few years and they are among the lowest in town.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure.
