Heritage Guesthouse is well located, very near to the main tourist area and all the restaurants, a stone's throw from both the Mekong and the Nam Khan and easy strolling distance from the old quarter. However, its proximity to the wat next door can make for some noisy early morning wake up calls. Rooms vary in size, and while they are quite clean, like many guesthouses, they are not cleaned daily during your stay. All rooms are complete with bathroom and hot shower. Staff are friendly and offer a range of the usual services such as laundry and drink sales. While Heritage is a decent guesthouse in a good location, it's not the best available in the price range, though they are commendably one of the few who have not increased their rates over the past few years. Take advantage of them while you can -- expected renovations are sure to give this well-located spot a fresh look -- and higher prices.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Decent rooms, but a tad overpriced - 22nd February, 2006
This was a nice guesthouse, with quiet, but friendly staff. We originally stayed in a double air con room for one night, but they quoted us the wrong price in baht (accidently), so after one night we moved to a cheaper fan room. Our room was tidied everyday, although they didn't always empty the bin in the bathroom.
We didn't get early wake up calls from the Wat as there is a new guesthouse being built next door and instead we got the workmen and their cacophony of tools from 9am onwards, but at least it got us up and out!
The hot water doesn't last too long though, two showers and the second person has luke warm to cold, but it is so warm here it doesn't matter. If the heat bothers you I'd advise paying extra for air con as it can get very warm at night.
All in all a nice guesthouse, the standard over here just isn't as high as Thailand, and especially in Luang Prabang you pay more for less.

Overpriced - 21st November, 2006
We arrived in Luang Prabang at a late hour and picked this place out of the guide book. The price was $16 for an air-con room, which wasn't really worth it,especially as there was no glass in the window, just a screen and a grate-which doesn't make for peace and quiet.Certain members of staff were not the most polite either.

don't call them - 3rd March, 2006
I e-mailed them 3 times over 2 weeks and I never received a reply. I really wanted to stay there because it had received good reviews. So I called them. I asked if I was speaking to the Heritage Guest House and was told yes it was. The lady I was speaking with then proceeded to tell me quote “We no take bookings” before I even had a change to ask about dates. Then she hung up on me. Needless to say, I booked at a different Guest House.

Good Spot - 20th January, 2006
Stayed here three nights. Fantastic location in the centre of it all but a little away from the main backpacker scrum. I liked it for that. Very relaxed but helpful staff. It does what is says on the can.

The people are friendly, the rooms are clean, and the air-con's cold. The location is fantastic as it is a two minute walk from the main street and night market. My wife and I stayed for only one night as we found a cheaper place down the street.
