Rama Hotel

Best value in Luang Prabang

Clean and simple, the Rama Hotel offers good value for Luang Prabang. It is centrally located, with air-con rooms, all with bathroom and hot shower, fridge, telephone and TV. Decor is simple, though somewhat dated, with soft lighting. The only drawback is that the beds are like concrete. Otherwise, rooms are cleaned daily, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of outdoor areas for guests to lounge. Breakfast is included and the attached restaurant serves the standard combination of reasonably priced Lao, Thai and Western cuisines in an unbelievably gaudy environment.

I thought it was fine - 24th November, 2005
Stayed here February 2005 - felt very comfortable. This hotel gave me all I needed -- I don't expect five-star facilities/24 hour room service, nor should you at the price. It is a little way from the town/river, but a little walk never hurt anyone.

Rama Hotel's Just Fine - 13th June, 2005
After cycling in 38 degree C heat from Luang Prabang airport we rolled our bikes into the restaurant of Rama's where they were parked, unlocked for 3 days. The chubby reception guy greeted us with resounding 'yes' and 'no' sirs with each query. Too polite. We even used his cellphone charger. And the room was just fine, with a slightly dusty parquet floor cos of the dry season. Nice views from the top floor balconies. Superb value at US$15 year round, except for Pimai perhaps? The solution for inflated room rates is to... move on...

New management - 17th December, 2009
Effective reservation, friendly staff, very helpful new manager (started during my visit, hopefully will be successful in providinig quality rooms enhancements), convenient location - close to all placey you want to visit and no problems with explaining where to stay if you got lost ;-) . Enjoyed the stay in Rama Hotel.

Fair value - 18th January, 2007
Stayed here December 06 and January 2007 and rates have gone up to $30 per night. Jaliya round the corner is a fair substitute if you can't get into the Rama. Both a small walk out of the main centre, but reasonable value for money. Don't expect top standards, but clean. And breakfast, tho boringly repetitive, is fair enough.

25USD in july - 21st July, 2006
We paid 25 USD in july 2006. One thing I didn't like : when we arrived, the price written on the form we filled was 18 USD, and when we left, they had changed the figures into 25 USD.

stayed 3 nights - 2nd January, 2006
Ex to call Vientiane ... reasonable for US$15. Very close to I think the best local food across the road. Always see locals buying there. Fried rice is good there. Hotel is at major intersection. Overall not bad for convenience. But the receptionist forgot to wake me up at 8am for my ride out of town ... lol

No service at all - 11th April, 2005
I selected the Rama hotel because of it good reviews, but the way they threat you is below anything you can imagine. We made a reservation, since we would arrive with the latest flight from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. They told us that the room would be US$10 (that's also what the LP of January 2005 told us). When we arrived, they suddenly said the rooms were US$25 because of the upcoming New Year. Excuse me, but it's now 10th April!!! This is not the best value for money that we expected. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.
