Description
Centrally located overlooking the Mekong River, Sala Prabang has been recently done up in a classy, modern style. Creamy sandstone complements dark wood in a western take on Lao design. There is a downstairs foyer with comfortable seats, television, lovely furniture and Mekong views, and an attached open-air restaurant serving a mix of dishes, directly on the bank of the river. The decor has been beautifully done, but the rooms are tiny. Considering the price, it's not a great deal, but if you’re into class above space, this could be a fantastic choice. All rooms have air conditioning, bathroom and hot water. Prices include breakfast.

Total rooms: 18

Dbl A/C private b'room
35 USD (low season) 35 USD (high season)
45 for larger room, 55 for river view

Space really wasn't an issue as we were sleeping in the room, not running a seminar... We had a room on first floor with balcony and thought it was perfect. Staff great and setting is the best in town. There are other decent places on the Nam Khan, but in May, the Mekong was a glorious sight from the hotel, while the Nam Khan had all but disappeared. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

A good location and friendly staff. We had an upstairs balcony room with a view of the Mekong that was excellent for watching people and sipping on a Beer Lao or two. Reasonably comfortable but compact with little space to put your stuff. Excellent shower! Breakfast was good. We only stayed 2 nights then moved to much superior Apsara (which was 5 US cheaper).

We made reservations at Sala Prabang, unfortunately they closed the largest part of the hotel and there were no rooms available when we arrived. They where very friendly and apologetic about it and had arranged alternative rooms in another hotel, Le Calao Inn, and Sala Prabang paid the price difference for the rooms.

This is a classy, atmospheric hotel. If you pay to stay in the side wing with a view of the river you won't be dissappointed. Funky and modern & luxurious.Great staff & location. Only drawback was the SUPER firm bed (translate to ''rock hard'').

Space is not all! -

The Sala Prabang is your choice if you seek comfort and colonial class over sheer space. Yes the rooms are small but not that small. The two first floor rooms in the old villa are the best value (45 US, low season) with your own private balcony overlooking the river, a good discreet spot to watch the monks on alms rounds in the early morning. The owner-architect khun Sinlasone can give you a pretty precise description of Luang Prabang and the UNESCO project (no glorification here). The atmosphere is all friendly and helpful and you will choose this place any time once you've stayed in.

Villa Sokxai
Sakkalin Rd, Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang has very few guesthouses in this price range, and Villa Sokxai (previously known as Sok Xai Guesthouse) is one of them, but probably not the best value. Recently renovated, the rooms are now air-con throughout and are nicely done, with individual bathrooms which are very clean with a... more

Saynamkhan Guesthouse
Baan Wat Sene, Luang Prabang
Saynamkhan is gloriously situated on the banks of the Nam Khan River. Unfortunately, the riverside rooms don’t take full advantage of the stunning location and only have smallish sized windows overlooking the view. Rooms are decent and medium sized, with décor that's plain and... more
