Sala Luang Prabang

Class over space

Centrally located and spread over five two-storey buildings overlooking the Mekong River, Sala Prabang has been done up in a classy, modern style. Creamy sandstone complements dark wood in a Western take on Lao design. In the main building, there is a downstairs foyer with comfortable seats, TV, lovely furniture and Mekong views, and an open-air restaurant serving a mix of dishes, directly on the bank of the river. The decor has been beautifully done with acute attention to detail, but the rooms are on the small side. Considering the price, it's not a great deal, but if you're into class above space, this could be a fantastic choice. All rooms have air-con, bathroom and hot water. The fifth, and most recent acquisition, is currently undergoing renovations and should be ready in October, 2008. Prices include breakfast.

Sala Luang Prabang reviews

Read 4 opinions from Travelfish readers

Perfect Location - 5th November, 2007
Space really wasn't an issue as we were sleeping in the room, not running a seminar... We had a room on first floor with balcony and thought it was perfect. Staff great and setting is the best in town. There are other decent places on the Nam Khan, but in May, the Mekong was a glorious sight from the hotel, while the Nam Khan had all but disappeared. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

good location - 30th May, 2007
A good location and friendly staff. We had an upstairs balcony room with a view of the Mekong that was excellent for watching people and sipping on a Beer Lao or two. Reasonably comfortable but compact with little space to put your stuff. Excellent shower! Breakfast was good. We only stayed 2 nights then moved to much superior Apsara (which was 5 US cheaper).

Redecorating - 21st August, 2006
We made reservations at Sala Prabang, unfortunately they closed the largest part of the hotel and there were no rooms available when we arrived. They where very friendly and apologetic about it and had arranged alternative rooms in another hotel, Le Calao Inn, and Sala Prabang paid the price difference for the rooms.

Fantastic view of the Mekong - 6th August, 2005
This is a classy, atmospheric hotel. If you pay to stay in the side wing with a view of the river you won't be disappointed. Funky and modern & luxurious.Great staff & location. Only drawback was the SUPER firm bed (translate to ''rock hard'').
