Merry 1 is located about an eight-minute walk from the centre of town along a small unpaved laneway and is the best pick of a cluster of the four guesthouses here, with small, clean, fan-cooled rooms, each with attached bathroom and hot shower. Rooms on the river side of the building have modest views and cost a bit more than the others, with no view to speak of. There is, however, a large riverside balcony where guests can sit and chat as the world floats by. The owner is a very friendly guy, who speaks German as well as English. Merry 1 is set to close for renovations during the 2008 low season so expect flashier rooms (with flashier price tags) soon thereafter.

update on price and noise - 5th December, 2007
right, Merry 1 by the river is a nice place to stay. You're a member of the family soon. Clean!Safe!
price $ 10 (for a double), which is very small, if it is to sleep two. The house is built of wood and at night you can hear every snore, cough, even turn on the mattress(squeaky).
So, if you have a sound sleep, go there, if not, stay away. There''s lots of other options in LPB.

Good value - 2nd December, 2006
This is a good value residence at the end of a quiet road on the river, and away from the over-touristed town centre. Clean and tidy. The staff are well-informed and are very helpful. Try to speak at least Thai because most people understand it. If hiring a bike, check the brakes thoroughly.

Good price, nice to walk off your dinner... - 23rd June, 2006
Nice rooms, quite basic, nothing special but good price, $4 for a double and nice to be a bit of a walk from town, only 10 minutes. The girls are lovely but don't speak english too well- you can usually get the information you need if you try hard enough. Laundry is expensive!! Tuk tuks always at the end of the drive if you need the bus station, no matter how early, and no worrites about it not having huge tourist information, you will get enough in town anyway, all the tours are very similar taking in Pak Ou caves and Kuang Si waterfall plus a few hill tribe villages.

Nice Place - 3rd June, 2005
Great location next to the river where you can watch the locals kids enjoy themselves in the river and do what kids generally do. Very friendly staff and well kept rooms. Somewhat out of town but hey 10 minutes walk isn't going to harm anyone.
