Not far from Wat Visoun, Merry 2 is the first guesthouse on the right as you start down this road of budget choices. Significantly cheaper and more basic than its sister Merry 1, the rooms have a motley assortment of beds and varying levels of upkeep. All rooms are fan-cooled and some have attached bathrooms with Western toilet and hot shower. Prices here have gone down in recent years, but this does reflect the amount of maintenance being done: very little. An easygoing family run the place and someone is always around. One of the cheapest spots around.

Don't forget your earplugs!

The rooms upstairs have very thin walls (the rooms are wooden and the walls are more like wooden fences), so you can talk to your friends next door without leaving the room! But things are usually quiet do it isn't a huge problem, but do bring ear plugs. Also, the walls don't go all the way up to the ceiling on the wall towards the hallway (there are mosquito nets there), so the light that shines through from the hallway is a little annoying at night. We also stayed in a (brick) room downstairs for a night and the walls were fine, all the way up to the ceiling and everything! COuldn't hear any neighbors this time, so pick a room downstairs if you can. Price is the same - 60.000 for a twin. Beds were good in both rooms, shared bathrooms also good, but you had a 50% chance there would be no toilet paper. Free bananas and drinking water, and computer with internet and wifi that sometimes worked.
