What we say:

Clean rooms, competent staff, and all-around low prices make this doubly-named guesthouse a popular choice. Rooms have ample floor space and, although a bit dark inside, are clean and comfy with big bed and attached bathrooms with hot shower. Despite the name, no restaurant is attached to the guesthouse; instead it is located just a few steps away towards the river. Be warned if you're a night owl: Doors close at 23:30 and if you're not inside by then you are supposed to make your own arrangements. Not much in Luang Prabang stays open later than that, anyway.

Great location

Located right in the heart of the colonial area of Luang Prabang near the Mekong. Clean and nice rooms with massive beds. Very friendly staff. Safe and secure. Room was adjacent to another building which had a water pump making noise throughout the day between the hours of 8:30am and 10pm. We paid 135,000 Kip for a double with fan in March 2010.

Not too shabby

Right by the river, and easily confused with neighboring Nam Sok. The rooms are OK, but more expensive than listed here, somewhere between 10 and 18 USD. Friendly staff. One of the guys stays up until all hours of the night watching whatever football he can find on TV - big fan. Give the restaurant a miss.

good location but sub-standard rooms

I first stayed in the Rattana for 2 nights and now am staying in the Silichit for another 2. Both cost 10 Dollars with private bathroom. But the Rattana is so much better: clean sheets, nice towels, windows (it's a shame I have to mention this, but the Silichit has lots of rooms without windows). My recommendation: take the Rattana over the Silichit any time. posititive: The Silichit let me use their phone for free to make a reservation in Pakse.

First floor better

The first floor is much better than the ground floor. You can ask for some discount for the listed prices. It is a good budget accommodation, clean well located and friendly...
