Malida Guesthouse

Small and well-run

Set back from the street and off the main tourist track, the small and well-run Malida is a quiet choice, just a five-minute walk from the hospital. Bare but clean rooms are reasonably priced and come in a variety of configurations. Rooms with private bathroom also come with TV and one large room has air-con. There are two balconies, one is generously sized and overlooks the sleepy street out front and the other is a long narrow affair out the back, overlooking the gardens and domestic life of the neighbours. A pleasant garden area out front is another good spot to laze away a day or two. The guesthouse offers many services, with breakfast available, drinks and snacks for sale, a laundry service, and bicycles for rent. They can also book day trips and tours to visit the local sights.

Malida Guesthouse reviews

Read 2 opinions from Travelfish readers

Solid Flashpacker Choice - 2nd July, 2006
Small and well-run is right. We liked the vibe of this family run guesthouse, located in a residential area of the city. Our room was clean, with two large beds, hot water shower, and air-con. The $15 rate also included breakfast, although we traded breakfast one day for two push bikes. The daily maid service and fresh towels was a nice touch. I imagine there must be better value elsewhere in town, but the comfortable feel of this place keeps us coming back.

Not that quiet... - 10th February, 2009
The place is clean and tidy. The people are ok. Price changes at will as it does in most places. There must be a new bar nearby as after 3 nites my wife and I moved to a quieter local. Although off the beaten track the ''boom, boom, boom, of a bar resonated until about midnite (curfew in Laos) every nite. Found a nice one by the river which was quieter and lower priced. Almost as nice. Called Cold River Guesthouse 856-7-252-810. Nice people and some rooms overlook the river. Cheaper than Malida. Only distraction is the 8-10 planes that fly over to the airport during the day. Actually both guesthouses are in the direct flight path.
