Concrete guesthouse style
What we say: 
On the main road, Phetdavanh has a collection of simple rooms in a big concrete building. Rooms are small but cosy with the choice of one double or two twin beds. Shared bathrooms are modern and clean, plus towels are provided in the rooms. The second level has a shared balcony with chairs and hammocks but lack the river views that Muang Ngoi is known for. This is the only spot in town with 24-hour electricity, courtesy of a waterfall-powered generator in the nearby jungle, as well as a 2-for-1 book exchange. The owners, particularly their daughter, speak English well and told us that there will be new bungalows later in 2010. This is also the only place in town that you can book ahead online.

New Bungalows!
If you visit Muang Ngoi, you will probably be greeted by Penny (the daughter) at the dock, and like everyone else you will have a hard time saying no to her. Rightfully so, the new bungalows that they've built are fantastic; magnificent river view with hammocks, ensuite rooms with brand new bathrooms, the comfiest double beds ever, white sheets and all! For 50,000 kip during low season for a double ensuite room, its a luxurious bargain. Also you get to hang out with the crazy character that is Penny, who does everything from cleaning, cooking to being your local trek tour guide. Plus in the evenings they have a DELICIOUS buffet for 15,000 kip all you can eat, so even if you don't stay at Phetdavanh, definitely drop by for dinner!
