Description
Despite the sign out front that promises both English and French are spoken, communication is a challenge at Lin Thavong, though there's not much to discuss. Basic bamboo bungalows are similar in every way to others in the area with a lone light bulb, platform bed and little else. A stone path leads to cleanish men's and women's shared bathrooms with squat toilets and cold showers. As these are a bit set back from the river, there's no view to lure you in -- and not much else to either, though the price tag's small and staff are friendly.

Sunset Guesthouse
Riverside, Nong Kiaow
Sunset Guesthouse is the best Nong Kiaow offers in terms of aesthetics, amenities and services in the budget category. Standard for Nong Kiaow, it is a bamboo-stilted structure, with mid-sized rooms and private bathroom. The rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean, and unlike other guesthouses in... more

Sengdao Bungalows and Restaurant
Riverside, Nong Kiaow
The bungalows at Sengdao are quite small and very plain. But at this price for individual bamboo bungalows and a small balcony overlooking the river on prime real estate, it's a real find. The walls are well, bamboo thin, and the rooms no bigger than a double bed and a backpack, but Nong Kiaow is... more

Manypoon Guesthouse
Near the bus station, Nong Kiaow
A few steps from the very modest bus station, Manypoon is a large solid wooden house in traditional Lao style and is a good choice. Small rooms are basic but tidy, with electricity, fan and mosquito net. The guesthouse has a shared balcony, overlooking the rest of this small town with its mountain... more

Bamboo Paradise Guesthouse
Riverside, Nong Kiaow
Bamboo Paradise is set, like most of the guesthouses in Nong Kiaow, on the banks of the Nam Ou river. It's a little way back, and the views, while lovely, are not the best the town has to offer. A shared balcony and seating area where you're welcome to relax is available, and they may or may not... more

Phayboune Guesthouse
Off the river, Nong Kiaow
Phayboune is at the upmarket end of Nong Kiaow's guesthouses, featuring one building and -- as is the norm in Nong Kioaw -- a set of bungalows: The concrete building at the back has uninspired rooms with bathroom and hot shower. Small and dark, the rooms are basic, with beds and mosquito nets, and... more

Pha Noy Guesthouse
Riverside, Nong Kiaow
Also known as CT Restaurant and Guest House, Pha Noy is comprised of a small group of bamboo bungalows, just by the bridge spanning the Nam Ou River. Bungalows are basic with a bed, mosquito net and electricity, but being right on the river, each has a balcony with a view. Attached baths are rustic... more

Sunrise Guesthouse and Restaurant
Riverside, Nong Kiaow
Sunrise is located by the bridge spanning the Nam Ou river, and features a wide veranda with great views that catch whatever sunrise can be seen through Nong Kiaow's heavy early morning fog. Rooms are generously-sized and include a proper bed and mosquito net, but are otherwise sparsely furnished.... more

Som Gnot Guesthouse
Off the river, Nong Kiaow
Som Gnot is a one-storey concrete building, just opposite the dirt road to the boat landing. Just a two-minute walk from the bus station side of the bridge, plenty of village life and local action -- what there is of it -- happens right outside your door. Rooms are very basic, with just a bed and... more

Mexay Guesthouse & Restaurant
Off the river, Nong Kiaow
Mexay is a big wooden house, set off the banks of the river, offering extremely basic but large rooms with just a bed and mosquito net. The toilets are very clean, but are outside in a separate building. A restaurant is located on the balcony with a limited menu, providing a nice enough space to... more

Philasouk Guesthouse and Restaurant
Near the bus station, Nong Kiaow
Philasouk is conveniently located right near the tiny bus station. It's a big wooden house with basic rooms featuring a bed, mosquito net and electricity. A stairwell leads up to a dark and dusty hallway. Unsurprisingly, rooms are quite dark, but the sheets match the bed spreads and windows are... more
