What we say:
Formerly known as CT Guesthouse and Phanoy Guesthouse, this guesthouse has reverted to again be Phanoi Guesthouse. It sits right on the river under the CT Restaurant and is a new concrete structure with a row of rooms in it and a large terrace to relax and watch the world go by. The rooms here are larger than the Nong Kiaow standard and the beds and linen much better. The bathrooms are clean and have hot water and Western toilets. The rooms have air-con, but you only get to use it if you pay for a remote control. Free WiFi is available in CT Restaurant, but not in the rooms. This is a nice place, but lacks the character of the surrounding bungalow joints. Additionally, it's a little pricey for Nong Kiaow.

Basic but good
We stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. The facilities are very basic but reasonably clean and there's plenty of hot water. The main plus is that accommodation is in bamboo bungalows each with its own terrace and river/mountain views. Stunning. The disadvantage is that the restaurant is behind the bungalows uphill so on a level with the roofs and it can be very noisy.

fine but basic
I stayed in one of the bamboo huts right on the riverside for a couple of nights. There was a double bed with a mosquito net, a fan (overnight electricity meant I could run this overnight) and a very basic bathroom with a squat toilet and a shower which occasionally had hot water. It was clean enough for what it was. The staff were friendly and laidback. I enjoyed sitting on my balcony and relaxing. It was 50000kip a night, which I think was fairly good value, (would have been better if there were 2 in the room I guess) considering I got a balcony with a nice view of the river. The restaurant was ok, with a mix of lao and falang foods and a lot of choices on the menu. The only issue I had was the noise at night - a group of Lao kids hung around the bridge at night chatting away, and a rooster woke me up a few times (I think it was literally underneath my hut?!)
