CT Guesthouse
Bargain bungalows with great views

What we say:
Just across the bridge, CT Guesthouse (formerly Pha Noy Guesthouse) has a small group of basic bungalows lining the riverbank. Unlike other spots in town, CT hasn't upgraded recently and some bungalows are looking worse for wear with leaky showers and peeling laminate covering the floorboards. The balconies have more furniture than the rooms which contain just a double bed with mosquito net and a standing fan. Attached bathrooms are rustic with squat toilets and no sinks, but now feature hot water heaters. The view — enjoyed from the privacy of your balcony or the comfort of the CT restaurant — is the real draw here, and CT remains a popular place.

Basic but good
We stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. The facilities are very basic but reasonably clean and there's plenty of hot water. The main plus is that accommodation is in bamboo bungalows each with its own terrace and river/mountain views. Stunning. The disadvantage is that the restaurant is behind the bungalows uphill so on a level with the roofs and it can be very noisy.

fine but basic
I stayed in one of the bamboo huts right on the riverside for a couple of nights. There was a double bed with a mosquito net, a fan (overnight electricity meant I could run this overnight) and a very basic bathroom with a squat toilet and a shower which occasionally had hot water. It was clean enough for what it was. The staff were friendly and laidback. I enjoyed sitting on my balcony and relaxing. It was 50000kip a night, which I think was fairly good value, (would have been better if there were 2 in the room I guess) considering I got a balcony with a nice view of the river. The restaurant was ok, with a mix of lao and falang foods and a lot of choices on the menu. The only issue I had was the noise at night - a group of Lao kids hung around the bridge at night chatting away, and a rooster woke me up a few times (I think it was literally underneath my hut?!)
