Chan-a-Mar is the only non-budget guesthouse in Nong Kiaow, with the two gorgeous children of the owners setting a family-oriented atmosphere. It consists of two generously-sized bamboo bungalows with hot water-bathrooms and a pergola with breathtaking views of the Nam Ou river and a stunning organic garden, teeming with colourful flowers. Breakfast is included, and if ordered in advance they can serve lunch and dinner. Also requiring advance booking is a textile demonstration, while wares are for sale. A portion of all their proceeds go towards establishing a local weaving school, as well as a UXO removal project. They can organise a day trip involving a visit to local attractions, a cooking class, lunch. The internet booking price at Chan-a-Mar is still US$100, including breakfast, and with a discount for longer stays. However, walk-in guests can often obtain a much larger discount if they happen to turn up when there is a spare bungalow. This doesn't happen often, but is worth a try.

Chan-a-Mar reviews

Read 1 opinions from Travelfish readers

Corrections - 19th December, 2004
There are also rooms available for US$3, and one of the bungalows is currently US$10 a night, not 100. The bungalows are really nice, and Nong Kiaow is beautiful. However, the whole village has a large and active rodent population - expect to hear some nocturnal visitors!
