Fine rooms but not much charm

What we say:

Located on the busy (by local standards) road into town, you can't even see the river from Phayboune. Guests can choose between staying in a bungalow or in a room in the concrete house shared with the family that runs the place. Bungalows are new and comfortable with double beds, hot water, and fan, but they're set in the house's driveway and the balconies have a less-than-inspiring view of the family mini-bus. Rooms in the house have similar amenities but are darker and a little grotty. If there's one reason to recommend Phayboune it's for large groups, but otherwise the more attractive options by the river are the same price.

Things change as usual

It's $6 for any of the 'new' rooms throughout the year. Upstairs rooms sleep three on three beds. Rear rooms have a double and single with fruit fly infested bathroom (don't bother them, they'll leave you alone too). Otherwise great view of neighbour's backyard and fruit trees. Found out that the new extension was built for long-staying Japanese NGO workers.
