The Resort is the only place to stay in Muang La. It has gorgeous green grounds, with a backdrop of tree-covered mountains, backing onto the river. And between the river and the resort is the hot spring, where a constant flow of locals come to bathe.
The buildings of the resort are beautifully made of wood and bamboo, and are an attractive sight, fitting in well with the natural environment. The rooms are very basic but clean, although with only a bottom sheet on the bed, a mosquito net unhung, a fan and no curtains. Rooms also have private balconies. For such a lovely building and clean rooms, the bathrooms are a big disappointment. The western flush toilet is fine, and shower is by a cold tap at head height. But the water clearly comes from the river, and consequently - at least in the wet season - the toilet bowl is filled with dark brown water, and the floor is filthy. There is no hand basin or other furniture, which means too that the floor is constantly wet and adding more dirt. Old soap and a wet roll of toilet paper had not been cleared away. It is incongruous in a place that is otherwise quite lovely.
There is also a restaurant on the grounds serving limited food with no menu, offering the result of what has been killed that day, as well as breakfast in the mornings.
