Monsavan Guesthouse
Too intimate but great bathroom

What we say:
Just up from the boat pier, the Monsavan gives you plenty of choice. The pleasant two story exterior leads to a number of choices of room. There are smaller single rooms and large, airy double rooms. The bamboo and rattan walls are long gone. All rooms have private bathrooms which have a distinctly clean and fresh appearance. The cleaning crew obviously does their work here. Fans cool the room until 22:00 when the electricity cuts out. This is a good option for those who value cleanliness, but the Monsavan often gets full early due to its proximity to the boats.

ok but price is much higher
Super clean double room with bathroom for 12$. Breakfast is not included, and may be the bakery just on the other side of the room can be a better choise for breakfast. There was no more powercut after 22h.

Clean basic rooms
Clean, comfortable rooms for a decent price (200 baht a night for a double with private bathroom). Good location as not too far up the hill and helpful staff that make nice takeaway lunches for you. I don't think this is the same guesthouse as written about but Travelfish but has the same name with an 'h' on the end and is the only one we could find with a similar name. No bamboo rooms or toilets across the road! Would really recommend though as some of the cheaper options sounded hideous.

Cheap price for what you get
Stayed one night. The room was clean, as well as the bath. The price was 40,000 kip now, but looked at a different one for 25,000 that was a hole. It is right on the main road so plan on waking up early when the rest of the town (including the rosters) gets up, but this looked like it was par for all Pakbeng guesthouses. They turn the generators off at 10, so your fan cooled room becomes significantly less fan cooled from there on.

Nice, 2 storey, concrete building with basic but very clean rooms. Friendly staff, decent breakfast and 160 baht for a room for 2 people.Very good value

monsavan has been rebuilt
now a brand new 2-storey concrete & wood structure, sparkling clean rooms with attached private bathroom & western flush toilet (hot water from 2100-2200PM), flashlight provided, but price has increased to 80,000kip for a double, & one of the staff tries to sell drugs to tourists.
