Description
For a long time Villa Salika was the only guesthouse in Pakbeng that was any better than extremely basic. Now, however, standards are climbing and it has competition - particularly from the Luangsay Lodge and Donevilasack. The clean, fan rooms are large and made of concrete and tile and have bathrooms with cold showers. On the top floor there is an enormous balcony which has stunning views overlooking the Mekong. The restaurant is directly below, also with terrific views. The food is very good and priced at 7,000-15,000 kip per dish. The only negative aspect is that the speedboat landing is directly below and at about 5.00am the speedboat drivers all rev their engines in preparation for the day's work.

Good standard rooms -

There might be an error in the room rates since my double room at Villa Salika was 70,000 kips (US$7). The view is excellent, rooms are clean but I was disappointed by the restaurant's food: it was very toned down to falang taste. Maybe I didn't pick the right dishes... Breakfast was good however and we could order sandwiches the night before, quite handy for the boat trip.
