Description
The setting for the Hot Springs Resort is jungle-like and tropical: a much more sensible place to stay in the colder months than when the weather is hot. Run by a government organisation, the main attraction is of course the local hot springs, from which hot water is piped.

The old-fashioned bungalows are lovely, large wooden structures, with two separate rooms, one with en-suite bathroom, one without, and two twin beds out in the general entrance area, effectively making up a third room, but not at all private. It's perfect for a family or a group, but less idea if you're stuck with strangers. Rooms have a mosquito net, fan (electricity runs from 6:00pm until morning) and a few pieces of heavy dark furniture. The large bathrooms are pretty clean, and generally the point of staying here. They are fitted out with a bath you can fill with spring water, but as there's no cold running water, temperature regulation is a problem. You might have to wait until the water cools down before getting in.

It is possible to come and test the waters during the day, with a separate complex housing private bathrooms fitted out with two baths and an attached toilet. It costs 5,000 kip per person to use these. Pathways between bungalows are very slippery in the rainy season.

Sonebot Guesthouse

Just around the corner from the Nam Horn, Sonebot has smaller but more modern rooms. Tiled, they are very clean, with a fan, mosquito net, as well as towels. Bathrooms have both a bath and a shower, both with the hot water from the springs piped in. Again, there is no cold running water, so... more
