Three buildings make up the Dok Khoune Guesthouse, the best rooms are in the new pink front and the rest are in two buildings out the back, one painted a delicate shade of light blue. Three grades of room are offered, the best being in the newer building, including air-con, TV and hot shower in immaculate private bathrooms. The other rooms are in the older buildings and are decent sized and creatively tiled with clean matching sheets and private bathrooms with hot shower and western toilet. Some of the older rooms smell of stale cigarette smoke and have a couple of broken fixtures. The cheapest rooms are darker and plainer but otherwise no different. Prices are definitely negotiable if the guest house isn't full. The guest house also organises tours, the hosts of the tours tend to combine with other tours in town and they offer a wide range of places to visit and activities. They also offer car rental, the costs vary depending on where you want to go, and they offer free transport to the airport.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.

May get a better deal elsewhere - 28th January, 2009
We took the most expensive room on the 3rd floor of the building, showed on the right hand side of the picture, at 60,000 kip (about USD7). Double room with private bathroom, no air-con/heater.
Room was dusty, as though no one had cleaned in here for a long time. We broke out our Teva sandals to walk around in.
Bathroom handle was broken and hanging loose from the hole. Water was hot though. Blankets provided are very warm - very appreciated during the 7 degree nights.
No free transport was offered to the airport though.
