Opposite the main junction, take the small road heading away from the main road through town and you'll find the New Xieng Khuang Guesthouse. Situated on large grounds, not far behind the old bus station, you will see the hotel poking it's upper floors above the melee of businesses in the area. This family-run establishment has a variety of room sizes with varying furniture but all offer similar amenities. Much effort has gone into the decorating scheme in each of the rooms, with clearly imported lime-green sheets lined with orange. Large comfortable chairs create a decent seating area in the largest room and all are fitted with a western toilet and hot shower, although some of the bathrooms could do with a little work as there is some mould and a little neglect. On site is also a small shop filled with silks, other textiles and locally made paper umbrellas, and a large restaurant that also serves as a banquet hall for weddings.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.

Best in the town - 22nd November, 2006
We spent 3 days in Phonsavan ( we called it Dodgy City) and after checking out at leat 6 options we found this to be the best. Not the place I would have chosen to spend a lot of time, but if you have to, this hotel was an oasis.
