If you're looking for a place with employees who can speak English, you're out of luck at Lieupi Mixay Guesthouse. But in a town of old crappy hotels, Lieupi Mixay is a breath of fresh air with clean, modern rooms. The sparkling tiled floors are great, the quilts on the beds thick enough to protect against the cold night air in the dry season and the hot water bathrooms with Western toilet are bright and clean and big enough that the toilet stays dry when you use the shower. Small LCD TVs with satellite channels hang on the wall as do fans. The free WiFi rounds out a deal that makes this one of the best value options in Phonsavan. We just hope they keep up the maintenance on this 2012-built guesthouse.

Nice but sometimes noisy
Coming from Hanoi to Phonsavan by bus, we planned to stay at Lieupi Mixay Guesthouse. But after 10 hours delay, we arrived in Phonsavan at night and were not able to find the guesthouse. Of course we found it on the next morning and stayed there for a small week. In fact, when you arrive for the first time in Phonsavan, the place is not easy to find because the guesthouse is not located on the main street, but on a small street parallel to the first one. The easiest way to find it is to start from the bus stop (all the long distance buses use to stop in the center near a couple of restaurants) : walk on the main street to east and turn on the first street right. At the next crossing, you will see the guesthouse in front of you (a little bit on the right). At check in there was nobody speaking english, but in the afternoon we had the suprise to meet a young man who works there and speaks a good english. He can help you to organize your tour, book tickets, etc. We paid 100.000 Kip for a double room on the upper floor. Nice bed, hot water, perfectly clean. It would be the perfect place to stay if the guesthouse was less noisy in the morning.
