Anouxsa Guesthouse
Best in town

What we say:
A selection of stand-alone wooden/bamboo and adjoining concrete bungalows either air-con or fan-cooled are available at Anouxsa. All are in spotless nick and the concrete bungalows are particularly spacious with verandas, suitable for sprawling on during steamy afternoons overlooking the river. Friendly family owners make this easily Champasak's best choice. Well-shaded hammocks are strung by the river and bicycles are available for hire. All the rooms have private, hot-water baths. Located about 1km north of the traffic circle, it isn't too far from downtown.

a place to get away to
The well maintained gardens, courtyard layout, riverfront views and well arranged rooms are all reasons to stay here. The restaurant offers excellent food and with a Spa next door - you don't much feel like leaving the neighborhood. If you've been traveling and are tired of the bustle found around Pakse & 4,000 Islands this is a great place to kick your feet up and unwind for a couple days. It may seem pricey compared to other accommodations, but they make up for it by having an excellent riverfront location with some of the best food we had in town - meaning you can make it a home and not spend all your time searching for a better place to rest your feet. Though the rooms were a little small, they included a vanity and one of the hottest showers I had in Laos - and because we had two twin beds that may have cramped things up. Without opting for a river view we still had a nice place to sit in front of the room - and spent most of our downtime in the restaurant anyway. The guests were a mix - mostly French - old couples, young groups, and families, but if you're looking for a party atmosphere I'd look somewhere else . . . probably a different town than Champasak.

Top Spot!
Anouxa is one of those places that feels like a million miles from Monday morning, with a well-kept garden, hammocks, and restaurant right on the river bank. It has more of an upscale air, getting more than its share of small-scale tour groups, but don't let that discourage you, as there are plenty of backpackers staying here as well. Either way, it makes for a good spot to meet others travellers. Rooms are expensive, ranging from 30,000 kip for a very basic room to 150,000 kip for an enormous, deluxe riverview room with a large veranda. Perhaps the best value are the gardenview fan rooms with attached hot-water bath for 60,000 kip (100K with A/C). Even at these prices, the rooms are a good deal, particularly given the grounds and the atmosphere. The friendly family that runs the place rents bicycles and can also help arrange for the bus or boat trip to Pakse. Bring a book and enjoy your time here.

Good Place, Location a Bit Remote
We sprang for one of their top rooms, for 150,000 kip. The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable. It had a big double bed and a single. The only complaint was the lighting; of the six light fixtures in the room, five were non-functional. When I complained, the owner replaced a couple of the burned out bulbs willingly enough. But for this kind of coin, that kind of detail should be looked after without waiting for customer complaints. The biggest drawback to Anouxsa is the location; it really is a long, long walk out from the center of town. The restaurant also features a very limited menu. On the upside, it's only about a 10 minute walk towards town to reach the wonderful Frice & Lujane restaurant. The restaurant is in a pretty garden behind a 1958 Lao-French villa. The menu is Italian. I had a scrumptious aubergine lasagna; my companion went for mushroom lasagna. We shared a very generous mixed salad. Coming upon this place in Champasak was a delightful surprise. The owner told me he is in his second season of operation. With luck he'll still be there when you arrive.

Nice big rooms, pleasant balcony restaurant. Best part is ''Dok Champa Massage'' right next door :)

Overpriced
Anouxa is overpriced and overrated. I stayed in a garden-facing concrete bungalow rooms. I was quoted 100,000kip for the room with air conditioning, or 70,000 with use of fan only. The next day, I moved the next day to Khamphouy GH where the room was entirely comparable but only cost 40,000 kip (fan only, no air-conditioning option). The folks at Khamphouy are also much friendlier and less money-minded than at Anouxa, offering free local coffee/tea (DIY) and chargeable cold drinks on a trust system. Anouxa is also quite a walk from the main stretch of restaurants and shops. It's main appeal is the view from its restaurant, but you can also get that (and comparable food) from Saythong GH's guesthouse right across from Kamphouy. Of the river-facing bungalows, only one (200,000kip) has a balcony with unobstructed river view.

great Mekong sunrises!
Loved waking early to watch the sunrise over the Mekong--sublime... we had one of the concrete bungalows with veranda, great place to relax in the evenings with an icy Beer Lao. Food was pretty darn good as well. And plenty of Beer Lao on hand. I had fun with one of the proprietors catching crickets to feed the ever-hungry catfish in the pond. Hired bikes and rode out to Wat Phu, I really was not expecting such an amazing setting, we stayed for a few hours soaking it up. Very friendly and helpful hosts, arranged a boat for us over to Don Daeng where we did a homestay for a night--took bikes with us and explored, then spent the evening with our warm, amiable host family--highly recommended! There's a brand new, stylish Lao restaurant in town near the circle, great cocktails and very good food, but cannot recall the name...

nice location/ helpful staff
perfect location by the river and at the end of town with a boat landing. Very nice and helpful staff. Organized the boat to Pakse for us - 5 people for 60.000 kip each. great boat trip! Anouxa is one of the places that has profited a lot from all the positive remarks on different travel guides. They have to be careful not to fall back. For me 150.000 kip for a riverfront room was highly overpriced: broken mosquito windows, smelly bathrooms. As I didn't see any other place in town, I couldn't say BEST IN TOWN.

Lovely family run place
We really enjoyed our stay here, The family looked after us well, the food was great and it felt more like a homestay than a hotel. We were really sad to move on !

Great Spot
Stayed in a double air-con room US$15 per night. We caught the boat from Pakse to Champasak (50,000 kip p.p) which dropped us right at the Anouxsa. Staff very helpful and they also have pushbikes and 2 scooters for hire. Scooters were US$8 and US$10 respectively. There is now an internet cafe across the road heading away from town. Great spot to break the journey from Pakse to the 4000 islands.

Friendly, helpful, relaxing
Hi, stayed with my partner and our six year old boy. After a day or two in Pakse it was lovely to arrive to this clean, chilled out place, nestled in the shade on the banks of the Mekong. Staff were really helpful, and did all they could to help. Stayed a couple of days after having planned to just pass through.

A haven
Just in case you've missed my Travelfish comments, I'm an older person travelling In Loas. This guesthouse was lovely, food OK and peaceful. They will organise tuk tuk to junction for you and the beer is icy.
