Done Khong Guesthouse and Restaurant
Particularly friendly, good food

What we say:
This particularly friendly spot has English- and French-speaking owners, generally clean rooms and a good location. The cheaper rooms all have cold water showers which, while slightly smaller than Pon's, remain a good deal. So to are the upstairs rooms overlooking the river -- they were converted to air-con rooms since our last visit, priced to make them the cheapest on offer in town, and have a nice, big, shared veranda. A small restaurant downstairs has a short English menu -- the steamed fish here is outstanding.

Very good choice!
Spacious, clean rooms, now in 2012 high season 120.000 with aircon and 80.000 w/o. Very friendly owner who seems to offer reliable advice. Very good food at the restaurant at the river Mekhong. Lovely athmosphere! Located directly at the ferry port.

Great service!
Agree with above regarding cobwebs, but a couple swishes with an old towel and they're easily gone. Nice to have hot water for a change, as on other islands this is not available (or at least I didn't notice any!). Food was pretty good, Lao cocktails were great! Had a look at the place across the street the 'planet praises and it was dumpy in comparison, staff and clutter lying all over the place. We paid $7 for a large double. This was my second stay there and I'd stay there again.

nice place
We stayed in a large double room which also had a single bed in it for $6. Other rooms avilable were $5 or $7 (hot water). Rooms were in need of dust (huge cobwebs) but were otherwise clean. The owner quoted extreemly high prices for transport but was friendly and helpfull. The restauraunt food was ok but nothing special.
