Description
The cheap rooms here are a big improvement over the Phoukhong closer to the boat landing, and worth the slight bump in price -- they offer functional rooms in a two-storey wooden house and cheaper rooms in a separate building to the rear, all of which have shared cold water bathrooms. There are also some nice, new air-con rooms with private bath that are a big leap in price, and that's where they'll try to steer you first, so ask for the cheaper ones across the alley if that's what you're looking for. The owner, Oun, is a very friendly Lao woman who spent her life working in Toronto and retired here to Don Khong -- she speaks English well and is very comfortable around westerners. The restaurant serves the same Lao and Western dishes as elsewhere, but they do some western dishes a bit better. Their fish with potatoes and vegetables is excellent.
