Description
Last time we visited this place we were praying they would refurbish it. They have, sort of -- a coat of powder blue paint over all the time-worn woodwork. Looks OK, but it also means that until the fumes dissipate, the windowless singles are like small gas chambers. The doubles with private bath have windows so you can air them out, but all the rooms are unfurnished except for the beds. The ground floor is now an Indian Restaurant, which does well catching the overflow from the popular Jasmin Restaurant nearby. The staff are friendly, and they offer some of the cheapest rooms in town. Bring a gas mask, and save.

Dirty, stinking and difficult to lock your door. Slow service. You are better of to spend 1 or 2 dollar extra and stay in the Great Wall Hotel across the street!

Sabaidy 2 Guesthouse
Road 24, Pakse
By far the most popular backpacker choice in town, Sabaidy 2 has clean and comfortable rooms with shared facilities or with private, hot-water bathroom. The rooms are smallish, but in a nod to taste have walls draped with traditional textiles from the region, and for the money represent excellent... more
Sedone River Guesthouse
By the river, Pakse
This is probably the best budget place to stay in Pakse. It's sometimes hard to scare up the staff here, but once you do you'll be offered a very decent room for the price, and it's the only guesthouse in town that's right on the river. The common-area over-looking the water is a great place to... more
Phonesavanh Guesthouse
Pakse
The Phonesavanh Hotel is a bit of a hole, but the associated guesthouse down the road to the east is one of the top choices in town. It loses in the popularity sweep-stakes to the Sabaidy 2 up the road, probably because the staff are much more shy and awkward around tourists, so the place doesn't... more
Narin Thachalern Hotel
Road 21, Pakse
This spotless shopfront in a central location has a handful of rooms which are all very spacious and are well looked after. While the shared bathroom rooms are overpriced, the others are fair value. Friendly, English-speaking... more
Souksamlane Hotel
Road 6, Pakse
This is another of Pakse's central but dingy hotels -- we actually thought it was an abandoned building until a sleepy but friendly clerk arose from behind the bare front desk to greet us. Like the exterior, most of the rooms are unimpressive, but try for one of the rooms overlooking the... more
Lan Kham Hotel
Road 13, Pakse
The cheapest rooms in this central four-storey hotel are so pokey that the washbasin doesn't fit in the bathroom and is in the bedroom instead. They're also on the top floor, which requires a climb up some uneven stairs but does deliver a bit of a view over Pakse. At the rear on this floor is a... more
Lao Cha Leun Hotel
Road 6, Pakse
Situated opposite the Salachampa Hotel, this multi-storey hotel is average value compared to some of the other offerings in town. Their small rooms are cramped while their flasher offerings, though clean and well-maintained, are overpriced. All the rooms have TV and private hot-water bathrooms. The... more
Thaluang Guest House
Road 24, Pakse
On the corner near the Sabaidy 2, the Thaluang is in a good position to catch the overflow when Sabaidy 2 is full, which is most of the time. But it has no atmosphere, and the rooms we saw here weren’t very clean -- a bit shabby, and a bit smelly. Still, the place fills up often -- probably... more
Vannapha Hotel
Road 9, Pakse
This is really the only 'out of the way' option worth seeking out if you want to get away from the crowds. It's in a good location to patronise the food stalls along the water where the fish farms are, and there are a bunch of down-home, Korean-style barbecues and other restaurants that cater... more
