The Tad Fane Resort
A good place for couples

What we say:
The resort overlooks the falls, with views from every room, slightly obstructed by trees. It's at an elevation of 1100m, which means cool temperatures year round even during the day -- none of the rooms have fans or air-cond -- they aren't needed. At night temperatures can really plummet so definitely bring some warm clothing between November and February. The rooms are simply, but nicely decorated -- a bit musty, but then the falls generate a lot of moisture. They aren't nearly worth the price, but then you're paying for the location, not the room. There's a restaurant on site which boasts about its wine selection and serving meats and cheeses imported all the way from Thailand! It's hardly Niagra Falls, but it's a good place for couples, and the family rooms are decent too.

Stunning waterfall, decent 'resort'
Tad Fane is gorgeous, like upper Yosemite in the jungle. The resort is in a perfect, perfect location. I stayed one night at Tad Fane Resort with my wife, and it offers simple bungalows right on the canyon rim for a price higer than what you normally pay in Laos. Travelers should beware that it gets comparatively cold on the Bolaven at night and the resort doesn't provide suitable blankets. Travelers should also beware that during the heavy rainy season the falls are covered in mist and unviewable. There's really no need to stay here unless you want to take one of their early morning guided hikes to the top or bottom of the falls or you want a romantic getaway for the night. Next time I'm in Pakse I'll stay in town and rent a motorbike to see these falls again. The restaurant was good enough but nothing special. My wife thought the fish in the soup had been frozen.

found a great alternative
We arrived at the Tad Fane ressort and it was fully booked, which we didn't know, as they hadb't answered our emails we send in advance. So we were lucky, they send us to the Sapaidee Guesthouse ten minutes down the main road, which is owned by a lovely local family. The rooms are basic, but very clean and you get a real local impression of the area. The family has also opened a small restaurant next door where they serve food. The whole family was there at night to join the few guests, very nice. And we just payed 6$ for the room, so it was a not just a nice but cheap alternative to the quite expensive ressort.
