Thakaek Guest House
Not too bad a choice

Khammuan Province

Description
Like a lot of places in Tha Khaek, this place doesn't exactly have a lively atmosphere, and the location and grounds are less than charming. But it does has some very good rooms, with carpeted floors, great bedding, good furnishings, air-con, TV, and hot-water bathrooms, some with tubs. You'll still get better value for your money at the Mekong-Kham Mouane Hotel along the river, but it's not too bad of choice.

Thakhaek Travel Lodge
1km south of the roundabout, Tha Khaek
The Thakaek Travel Lodge is flat out one of the best guesthouses in southeast Asia and features nightly campfires in the front courtyard that create a great atmosphere to relax with a beer and chat with fellow travellers. The main building offers a dorm room for a cheap, comfortable night's sleep... more
Phoukhanna Guest House
Vientiane Road, south of the Tourist Information Centre, Tha Khaek
The Phoukhanna is a good alternative to the Travel Lodge in a more convenient location -- it's just down the road from the new tourist information centre, and not to far from the river. There's an attractive, open-air, roadside restaurant that serves decent western and Lao food, and is also popular... more
Mouthong Guest House
Nong Bua Kham Rd, Tha khaek
This is a weird little place in a courtyard off the road, with some slightly shabby but nevertheless comfy rooms and no atmosphere, that serves mostly as a fall-back option. All the rooms have hot-water private baths, air-con and cable TV. It does have the virtue of being centrally-located, near... more
Southida Guest House
Chao Anou Road, north of the fountain square, Tha Khaek
This is a friendly, family run place -- some of the staff here speak English well and can particularly helpful with tour information and scaring up motorbike rentals. The rooms are decent -- spacious, with tile floors and Thai-style furnishings -- but unfortunately they are a bit pricey for the... more
Khammoune Inter Guest House
Kuvoravong Road, 2 blocks north of the fountain square, Tha Khaek
This place gets a bad rap, and while it's true the corridors are shabby and unkempt, the rooms aren't so bad. You'll pay less for a fan room with private bath here than you will at the Travel Lodge. Some of the rooms struck us as a bit cramped, but we've stayed in a lot worse places than this. Some... more
Sooksomboon Hotel
On the river road, across from the car ferry
The Sooksomboon is a curious place, worth staying in just for yucks and giggles. Set in an old French-style building that used to be a police station, it's notorious for it's kitschy interior decor -- check out the orange-striped, carpeted wainscoting in the halls! Some of the bathrooms were a... more
