Mekong Hotel
Big old hotel

What we say:
We can imagine a time when the Mekong Hotel was king of the Tha Khaek hotels but those days are long gone. It's now simply a large multi-storey hotel with rooms like many other uninspiring budget accommodation in town. Large bland rooms with dirty walls, air-con, reasonable spring beds, cable TV, old and stained hot water bathrooms is what you get. And WiFi of course, but only in the lobby. Staff are not always around to help, so don't expect anyone to be there when you want to check in. Located on the Mekong river road, the location is great and it's the one major positive of this place. Come for the location and not for the rooms.

Attached massage shop
I didn't stay at the hotel, but I can 100% confirm that the attached massage/sauna building right on the road is designed with the 'single male clientele' in mind. Definately not recommended if you're looking for a real massage.

Prison with a view
Bed was terrible -- I could feel every spring, pubic hairs covered sheets, water turned off at 10pm, lighting was harsh and resembled an interrogation room. The bathroom had a dwarf height door, windows would not close, the tv was in a strange position on top of fridge and the towels have suspicious brown stains on them. Staff very unhelpful and would not allow us to change rooms even though there must have been many free rooms vacant. The restaurant looked like something out of a wedding reception. Toilet paper was shrunken.

Nice!
Just my style, nicely worn out but sparkling clean. Interestingly according to their own blurb there are 61 standard plus 2 VIP rooms available. The door pattern suggests a certain uniformity. Also, no rooms have Mekong views, but the balconies do! all necessary toilet equipment provided, including a comb and cotton buds. what more can you ask for?
