Phoukhanna Guest House
Good quality accommodation

What we say:
The Phoukhanna is a good alternative to the Travel Lodge in a more convenient location -- it's just down the road from the new tourist information centre, and not to far from the river. There's an attractive, open-air, roadside restaurant that serves decent western and Lao food, and is also popular with locals. The rooms are set in back of a huge, grassy courtyard, and are nicely done up with parquet flooring and good furnishings. The fan rooms are a particularly good value, but the air-con rooms are priced more reasonably.

worn down rooms and karaoke
in front of the guestrooms shown on the picture there is now a big karaoke-bar so be prepared to have noise from inside and from teens outside. we looked at 3 rooms, they all are pretty worn down, with not working hot water/ sink...the sheets weren´t fresh eigther. In the morning, at 7:30 nobody was there for breakfast or check-out. would not stay there again even though the place really would have had potential with its nice outside-area

ignorant staff and filthy room
when I got there about midday, nobody really cared to show up. Showing me two rooms, both had moist walls and smelled accordingly. The most revolting that the bedsheets were used, probably more than once. So, I didn't stay!
