Auberge Sala Hin Boun
Overpriced, but relaxing

What we say:
The old style wooden bungalows at Auberge Sala Bin Houn are dreamy by anyone's measure. Set on the banks of a lovely stretch of river, the best rooms have fantastic balconies to relax on. Inside the rooms you'll find wall hangings and other adornments such as traditional textiles which really give the place a lift. The bedrooms have hot water shower and Western toilet. The grounds of this place are really peaceful and one could easily spend a couple of days just relaxing here. The only drawback is the outrageous price which in this neck of the woods has no comparison. The onsite restaurant is great and even has wine and spirits on offer. A top little guesthouse that is simply over-priced.

Great relaxing spot
We loved this place, and thought it was a good value in the mid-range, especially if you want to relax and take a breather from frantic travelling in a super- cute environment (for just a one-night stopover, its virtues may be less relevant). Riverside rooms have great balconies on which to sit and read and just watch river life go by. However, the non-riverside building also has a shady shared front porch, facing towards the river, on which you could relax just as well (and I think the singles at $13 are a steal). Everything is very tastefully done, from the tapestries to the architecture, and the bathrooms were an excellent standard and very clean. Staff had a lot of information about options in the area, and the best maps of the cave and entire region. They were very friendly once they see you are not obnoxious. Food is not exciting, but at least it was very fresh (but you must order an hour in advance, as they are very slow). Also, they were very stingy about providing bottled water--apparently their purifying machine was having problems, so they wanted to dole it sparingly. There are one or two little convenience stores in the village, each of which had about 2 bottles of water in stock, so we bought those up to supplement it. TONS of construction of the new road is going on right in front of the hotel, and can be expected to continue until the rains, so it can be noisy in the day.
