Tolex Guest House

Showing its age

What we say: 3 stars

Tolex has been around for a few years now and while the older rooms are showing their age, they are consequently cheap. These rooms are simple rattan bungalows with squat toilet and icy cold buckets of water for bathing. There are middle of the road bungalows which are more expensive and also newer concrete rooms which are the best and most expensive. The newer rooms are disappointingly a little pokey and you'll want to get a room at the front of the building so that you get a window that lets in the most natural light. There is an option for air-con, but this is rarely needed at this altitude, and nights in the cooler months are actually quite chilly. Rooms come with a tiny TV, hot water bathroom with Western toilet and stiff beds. But there are better modern rooms in town and the main reason you'd choose this place over the others is to save money in the extremely cheap bungalows. This place is located next to Papao Guesthouse a kilometre east of the main intersection.
