Service Guest House
Not going to be around for long
Along the Nam Theun River, Thalang
Khammuan Province
Description
This place doesn't have a proper name but a sign out on the main road dubs is 'Service Guesthouse' which is just the Laotain way of indicating that tourists should stay here and it's not just a short-time place or a flop house. We've heard it called The Bamboo Guesthouse and the staff here said we could call is the Phou Si Guesthouse if we wanted to -- the name roughly means 'the colour of the mountain.' The rooms are clean, basic wood bungalows with shared, cold-water baths. There's a restaurant on site, and two circular salas with thatched roofs that offer a nice view of the nearby Nam Theun river while dinning. Expect this place to be in a new location some time in 2007 as the river valley it sits in is inundated by the local hydro-electric dam project.
