Like the Sailomyen, the Sypaseuth is right on the river. The cheapest rooms don't have quite the same rustic charm, but they are a little better and only slightly more expensive -- a good deal for a shared bath room. The more expensive rooms are well-furnished and have tile floors.

We stayed in one of the $7 concrete rooms with mozzi net, fan, and cold shower bathroom and thought it great value for money. The location on the side of the river was great and we could walk out of our room straight onto the veranda with a view of the locals in the river, and the sound of the falls. Recommended.
P.S. Try the restaurant at the Tad Lo Lodge - we ate there watching the sun go down as the mahouts took the elephants for a wash in the river. Magical. And the food - especially the papaya salad - is great as well.
Also recommend Jom's restaurant for great breakfasts. Jom speaks good English and is a good source of info. He took us for a guided visit to the waterfalls and villages which was very informative.
