Sypaseuth Guesthouse
A good deal

What we say:
Like the Sailomyen, the Sypaseuth is right on the river. The cheapest rooms don't have quite the same rustic charm, but they are a little better and only slightly more expensive -- a good deal for a shared bath room. The more expensive rooms are well-furnished and have tile floors.

The place to stay in Tad Lo
We had the pleasure of staying at Sypauseuth guesthouse this summer. The location was clearly the best in Tad Lo, as it was located right by the river. The room (in the main building) had two large beds with mosquito nets and a shared balcony. The bathroom had hot water, and the place also had its own restaurant with decent food. We very much enjoyed this place and would recommend it over other places we checked out in Tad Lo.

Excellent Place, But check the Bed
Our room, at about $8.25/night for 2 people was splendid value. It was very clean, the furnishings were reasonably attractive and the veranda right outside had a wonderful view of the falls and of all of the village activity centered on the river (swimming, fishing, hunting and gathering). Only complaint was the beds which were easily the hardest beds in my SE Asian experience; I might as well have slept on a table. We switched rooms the next night and the beds were much better. Check the bed before you accept the room. The restaurant's food was quite nice; we were particularly blown away by a whole fried fish with chili sauce.

Better options to be had
The Sypaseuth was somewhat disappointung, our garden bungalow was pretty much falling apart. Food not great either. We moved to the cheap bungalows at Saise. Same price but much nicer!

Great location and view
Stayed 1 night in old bungalow with river balcony. The room was noisy at night with cats in the attic and had to climb down steep ladder/steps to get to bungalow. The view is fantastic and I would stay there again but change to the concrete rooms. Staff friendly. Restaurant is OK as are the other restaurants in the area.

Great location and value
We stayed in one of the US$7 concrete rooms with mozzie net, fan, and cold shower bathroom and thought it great value for money. The location on the side of the river was great and we could walk out of our room straight onto the veranda with a view of the locals in the river, and the sound of the falls. Recommended. P.S. Try the restaurant at the Tad Lo Lodge - we ate there watching the sun go down as the mahouts took the elephants for a wash in the river. Magical. And the food - especially the papaya salad - is great as well. Also recommend Jom's restaurant for great breakfasts. Jom speaks good English and is a good source of info. He took us for a guided visit to the waterfalls and villages which was very informative.
