The Nong Soda, also known as the Mekong Riverside restaurant, is a series of large lime-yellow concrete buildings by the river at the far north of town. Rooms are spotlessly clean and very well-maintained, if a tad charmless. If you don't mind being a little away from all the Savannakhet action -- such as it is -- then this is a good choice. A large upstairs terrace is ideally suited to cold drinks and a sunset view. All rooms are air-con with hot water, TV, and fridge, making them very good value compared to the other options in town. Friendly, English-speaking owner. Motorcycle rentals are available here for US$8 per day, bicycles for US$2 per day.

Looks better from the outside! - 18th January, 2010
I was in #3, a large room with aircon, hot water bath, fridge, cable TV, and all the amenities. The cost was 100,000 kip, which wasn't outrageous, but nowhere near as good a value as other places on this trip. The room itself was comfortable and reasonably clean enough, but the bathroom was grotty and not as clean as it should have been either. The staff was, as thomcat mentioned, really quite lazy - so much so that it was almost amusing. I guess this is Laos and not Switzerland after all. The balcony on the main building is a great spot to catch the sunset across the river, and the distance from town, while not ideal, is probably less than a 5-minute walk. I doubt I'd stay here again, but I'm not in a hurry to return to Savannakhet either, so there you have it.

Could be better - 6th June, 2009
I had only two problem: the was not so clean and the staff on the reception was very lazy. The location is good, when the staff not sleep on the reception, then is helpful. But for this price you could find better in Laos.

quiet setting - 19th February, 2008
since we planned to stay one night only in 'Savan' we stayed here. the rooms are big enough (for your luggage too), some have windows in a corridor but the ones with a double bed are located at the courtyard. we didn't see the ones upstairs. the batroom had really hot water, the shower was nice & powerfull. we had some doubts about the sheets so we used ours. the management is very friendly, they drove us to the busstand at 6am the next day on their motorbikes!
