What we say: 2.5 stars

if you wind up making a connection through Savannakhet and don't want to go into town to sleep, there's an interesting little Vietnamese-run guesthouse right at the bus station. The cheap dorm rooms may seem tempting, but the beds have no mattresses, just thin mats and some bedding. The other rooms are cramped, but they'll do for the night.
