Boualuang Hotel

Clean and comfortable

What we say: 4 stars

With its recently built ice blue two-storey facade and shiny, white tile-floor rooms with tons of space, Boualuang reminded us of the brand-new, modern hotels available on the other side of the river in Thailand. Charming Boualuang is not but if you want functionality, cleanliness and comfort at reasonable prices, it can't be beat. Rooms come in two sizes, but the 'smaller' versions set in a motel style set-up on the second floor are huge, airy and spotless with basic modern furnishings, comfortable beds with clean cotton sheets, sitting areas, small desks, fridges, TVs, air-con, WiFi and large hot water baths. Larger rooms sleep six. Our only gripe is that rooms have only one front-facing window and so are a tad dark, although a small table on the walkway in front of each is a decent enough spot to catch some fresh air. Boualuang is set back from a quiet stretch of Ratsavongseuk Road to the south of town, so it's somewhat out-of-the-way if walking but if you rent a bicycle it's not too far at all, and the location is perfect for light sleepers.
