Sekong Souk Samlane Hotel

The best haunted option in town

Despite its echoing corridors, proximity to public radio speakers, and reputation for being haunted, the Sekong Souk Samlane has a lot going for it. It has a selection of restaurants across the road, and is about a 10-minute walk to the central market. Supposedly visited regularly by two Malays who died on the river, one of our party found it creepy, but the other thought this was brought on by BeerLao rather than lost souls. Afterlife detritus aside, rooms are cleanish and functional though basic, with cold water showers. A small restaurant is onsite, but the restaurants across the road are far more popular. There's also a good handicrafts store (though it was closed on our most-recent visit), and the hotel wins the prize for thinking up the most imaginative ways of folding textiles onto walls.

Sekong Souk Samlane Hotel reviews

Read 1 opinions from Travelfish readers

Not bad at all. - 31st December, 2007
I stayed here in December 2007. My room was quite comfortable, and very good value at 50,000kip. It was reasonably clean, and the staff were good enough to let me park my motorcycle in the foyer overnight (which meant riding it up a 4'' plank after I had drunk a LOT of Beerlao!). The craft shop is really good, but I had to do quite a bit of shouting to find somebody to open it! (Still, I had to do quite a bit of shouting to find somebody to book me in to my room!) Not the Ritz a perfectly acceptable place to stay. Interestingly, the staff don't stay in the place after dark. Maybe the ghosts of the two Malays bother them!
